Founded in 1991, with the help of a few passionate and caring Boone County residents, and a series of statewide matching grants from a Lilly Endowment initiative, Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT). GIFT helped to establish and strengthen existing community foundations across Indiana. CFBC successfully met Lilly Endowment GIFT challenges in 1993, 1996, 1998, and 2002. In December 2008, the Foundation successfully finished the Sustaining Resource Development (SRD) Challenge issued by Lilly Endowment, which aimed to build endowments in general as well as the Foundation’s own operating endowment.
The Community Foundation is a collection of charitable funds set up by individuals, families, businesses and organizations who wish to make a positive difference on a local scale.
In addition to the many scholarship funds at CFBC, we work to meet the changing needs of our community through grants from our discretionary fund, while other funds support specific local charitable organizations or causes. The Community Foundation helps manage and advise all of our funds to maximize the impact of grants to the community.
CFBC is proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2011. Since 1991, the Community Foundation has granted $17 million from its various funds to nonprofit organizations and programs working to solve critical challenges in Boone County.
