The Community Foundation of Boone County granted $1,025 to the Zionsville Historical Society in 1999 to compile material for their book project, entitled Early Businesses in Zionsville, Indiana. Ten books were able to be made with the funds and are now in process of being distributed. The book includes historical maps of the Zionsville business district beginning in 1865 through 1939. In addition, past articles, antique postcards and various business advertisements are included. Memories from individuals reflecting the changes of Main Street can be found.
This historic information will be distributed to the following locations: P.H. Sullivan Museum, Hussey Mayfield Memorial Public Library, and the Zionsville Historical Society in Zionsville; Archives Room of The Lebanon and the Boone County Historical Society in Lebanon; the Tri-Area Library in Jamestown; and the Indiana State Historical Society and the Indiana Room of the Indiana State Library in Indianapolis.
In this photo, Early Businesses in Zionsville, Indiana is being given by Joan Faulkner, project director of the Zionsville Historical Society to Linda White, librarian for Thorntown Public Library to add their collection. With the information from this book, future generations will be able to learn more about past businesses of the Zionsville community. The Foundation is happy we can meet the need, to make a difference, in the quality of life in our county.
