Twelve students from Boone County out of 49 applicants were interviewed for these three scholarships. Those interviewed from Western Boone were Saige Rutledge, Laura Hill, Courtney Hull and Zachary Keller. Lebanon High School's students chosen were Lauren Prittie, Katie Brown, Nicholas Hedge, Kristen Sargent, and Tasha Searles. Zachary Einterz and Rachel Heneghan were interviewed from Zionsville. Carrie Ann Hedge was a student who was interviewed from Sheridan High School. To be able to apply for this scholarship, the students had to be in the upper 20% of their senior class after seven semesters. A number of other factors were considered such as GPA, curriculum taken, honors received, test scores, extracurricular activities, community and volunteer involvement, need, work experience, references and an essay. After the interviews, the Community Foundation of Boone County scholarship committee narrowed the field to 3 nominees and an alternate. The finalists' names were submitted to the Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for the final selection of the recipients.

ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.

The scholarships are the result of a statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. There were 366 scholarships awarded statewide this year.
