Background

Established By: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beam are long-time residents of Jamestown, Indiana. It is their goal to provide financial assistance toward college tuition to a student in financial need. Mr. and Mrs. Beam have provided a renewable scholarship to a Western Boone graduating senior with preference from Jackson Township.
Date Established: December 2000
Length of Scholarship: Annual
Renewable: Yes, as long as funds are provided in endowment. For two, three or four years as long as student is full-time and maintains a "C" grade average. Recipient must write a letter in June stating their current college status along with transcripts. Send to Dr. Judi Hendrix, Director of Western Boone Education Foundation.

Residency: Western Boone School District in Boone County
Diploma: Western Boone High School
Enrollment: Any accredited public or private college or university. Must be accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Specialized Study: No
Special Characteristics: No
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: Yes - Copy of FAFSA form
Minimum GPA: Have and maintain at least a "C" average
Written Essay: Yes (see specifics below)
References: Yes - 2 (see specifics below)
Finalist Interview: Yes - by the Western Boone Education Foundation Scholarship Committee along with a member of the Ralph and Catherine Beam family.

Award Received

Tuition & Fees: $2,000 per year
Method: Check made payable directly to the college or university

  2. Education Institution name and address
  3. High school transcripts including GPA
  4. Two reference letters (one must be from a teacher or employer) (Community Foundation Scholarship Recommendation Form (PDF 52K) [Note: this application form can be filled out on-screen using the Adobe Acrobat Reader software and then printed.])
  5. Copy of FAFSA form. (Financial information is reviewed confidentially by Foundation staff only, and is required to verify financial need)
  6. Type written essay

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Essay to Include: The essay must be type written and one page in length. The topic of the essay: What are my future goals and why I need financial assistance in meeting these goals.
