Background

Established By: Robert V. Copeland in memory of his friend, Florence Gruver, who had been a teacher and a fine and true lady. It is designed for students who are pursuing careers in teaching.

Requirements / Selection Criteria

Residency: Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: Boone County high school (having attended all four years)
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private college or university with a state certified teacher preparation curriculum
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)
Specialized Study: Preparation for career in teaching
Special Characteristics: Demonstrated leadership skills through extra curricular, civic or church activities, including activities working with children.
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: Yes
Minimum GPA: 2.8 (4.0 system)

  • Examples of experiences working with children.
  • Your personal strengths and weaknesses.
  • Format: Typed, double-spaced
  • Maximum Length: TWO pages

Essay #2

  • Please answer this question: What famous person would you like to invite to your home for dinner and why?
  • Maximum Length: ONE page.
