Background

Established By: The Board of Directors of Mid State Bank in honor of the retirement of Tom Gruhl as bank president. Its purpose is to assist either students or staff of Zionsville Community High School to further their educations.

Length of Scholarship: One year
Renewable: Possible

Requirements / Selection Criteria

Residency: Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: Must be enrolled in or graduated from Zionsville Community High School

Current teaching contract or employment in administration by Zionsville Community School Corporation. (If teacher receives a grant-he/she promises to return to Zionsville schools for at least 1 year following grant receipt.)
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private college or university
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)

Any teachers' seminar/workshop/conference.
Specialized Study: No
Special Characteristics: No
Special Preference: Given to students attending Franklin College
Financial Need: Yes
Minimum GPA: 3.0 (4.0 system) - if student

If teacher applying for a grant, must be currently employed by and promise to return to Zionsville schools for at least one year following grant receipt.

Tuition & Fees: $556-$1,200 (amount awarded in (2006-07)
Method: Check issued directly to college or university or Zionsville Community School Corporation for the conference/workshop.

  4. Essay

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Essay to Include:
  1. 3-5 pages, typed, single spaced
  2. Describe proposed course of study.
  3. Describe reason for grant request.
  4. Describe what you hope to achieve through this course of study--intended career--or, for teachers, describe classroom applications--address how grant will benefit education in Zionsville.
  5. Teachers must have signed endorsement of grant request by building principal as well as signed agreement by Central Office Administration to act as fiscal agent for the grant.
