Background

Established By: Green Ribbon Safety Committee & Friends and family of Bobby Hysong. Bobby was a 1983 graduate of Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School. While attending Western Boone he was active in FFA, 4-H, and basketball. After graduation, he farmed with his family and was Farmer of the year in 2000. It is the family’s goal to help a deserving senior who has an interest in some kind of agricultural future.

Requirements / Selection Criteria

Residency: Western Boone School District in Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: Western Boone High School
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private college, university, technical or vocational school, or graduate degree program
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)
Specialized Study: Agriculture-related field
Special Characteristics: Good attitude & good relationship with classmates
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: No
Minimum GPA: Have and maintain at least a “C” average
Written Essay: Yes (see specifics below)
References: Yes - 2
Finalist Interview: No, unless the Hysong family finds it necessary

  2. High School transcript including SAT/ACT score(s)
  3. Two references: 1 reference from a FFA teacher or guidance counselor; and 1 reference from a church pastor or employer (if employed).   4. Essay

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Essay to Include:
  • Your past experience in FFA and 4-H, and your future plans in the agriculture field including what college you will be attending & why that school was chosen
  • Typed, double spaced
  • Minimum Length: 500 words
    Maximum Length: 1000 words
Selection By: Hysong scholarship selection committee; to be approved by the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of Boone County
