Background

Established By: Joseph K. and Charlotte Tyre, long time residents of Boone County, in memory of Charlotte’s parents, James Holman Carr & Pauline Neel Carr. The Carrs exemplified the American farm life dedicated to agriculture. They were not only farmers, but innovators. James attended Purdue University short courses too. In addition, he was the first president of the Boone County planning board and a recipient of the Ol’ Timers award from the Boone County Breeders & Feeders Association. Pauline was known as a perfectionist with her hand work, culinary treats, and flowers and was an active volunteer within the community.

Residency: Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: Lebanon High School, Western Boone High School, and Zionsville Community High School
Enrollment: Only at PURDUE UNIVERSITY, West Lafayette, IN.
Specialized Study: No
Special Characteristics: Demonstrated leadership skills through involvement in extracurricular activities
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: Yes—Provide a completed College Cost Estimator and Boone County release form (PDF 388K) in a sealed envelope and return it to the guidance department.
Minimum GPA: “B” average during high school

Award Received

  3. Two reference forms—one reflecting leadership & one for merit (Community Foundation Scholarship Recommendation Form (PDF 52K) [Note: this application form can be filled out on-screen using the Adobe Acrobat Reader software and then printed.])
  4. Essay
  5. College Cost Estimator and Boone County release form (PDF 388K) in sealed envelope.
  6. Three artifacts (provide three artifacts that demonstrate your leadership skills through your involvement in extracurricular activities).

    Items may include pictures with an explanation, a letter of reference or recommendation, or any other evidence that portrays leadership. Maximum number of pages for artifacts is three.

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Essay to Include:

Describe the most challenging obstacle you have had to overcome; discuss its impact, and tell what you learned from the experience.

Format: Typed, double spaced
Maximum Length: Two pages
