Background

Established By: Friends and family of John Whitney Roth III, upon his passing as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in 2006. He was a 2004 graduate of Zionsville High School where he was a member of the 2002 State Championship Golf Team. John touched the lives of everyone he met with his smile, his heart, his zest for life, and his passion for golf. He also had a passion for music, which he shared with the world through his guitar.

Diploma: Zionsville Community High School
Enrollment: University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana only

Financial Need: Yes
Minimum GPA: Maintain a 2.5 out of 4.0 GPA
Written Essay: Yes - choose one essay from the three options (see specifics below)

Finalist Interview: None

Award Received

Tuition & Fees: $1,000 per year—renewable for 4 years
Method: Check made payable directly to the college or university.  Name of recipient to be added to a perpetual plaque at ZCHS.

  4. Statement from student: list your hobbies and activities that you enjoy doing with your family
  5. Essay - choose one of the 3 topics

Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Essay to Include:
  1. Choose one of the following three essay questions:
    1. Who in your life has been your biggest influence and why?
    2. What is your most valued childhood memory?
    3. Think of a time when you truly helped someone. What did you do? How did this impact the other person? How did your actions impact you?
  2. Format: Typed, double spaced
  3. Minimum Length: One page
  4. Maximum Length: Two pages
