Requirements / Selection Criteria

There are no restrictions based on race, religion, sex or national origin.

Residency: Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: A graduate from a state accredited high school by the end of June 2008.
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private Indiana college or university
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)
Specialized Study: No
Special Characteristics: Community, school, work activities
Special Preference: Based on academic performance, school activities, essay, community and volunteer involvement, honors and awards, work experience, reference, interview and special circumstances including financial need.
Financial Need: If you want financial need to be considered when your application is reviewed, provide a completed College Cost Estimator and Boone County release form (PDF 388K) in a sealed envelope and return it to the guidance department.
Minimum GPA: Upper 20% of the class after seven semesters.

Finalist Interview: Yes, by the scholarship selection committee of the Community Foundation of Boone County on Friday, February 22, 2008.

Award Received

Tuition & Fees: Full tuition and fees for four years of under-graduate study (not including room and board). Plus, up to $800 a year for required books and equipment.
Method: Tuition and fees check made payable to the college and the $800 book stipend check is made payable to the student.

Deadline: 3 pm on January 25, 2008 in your guidance department. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

  1. Five-page Lilly Endowment Application (PDF 172K) [Note: this application form can be filled out on-screen using the Adobe Acrobat Reader software and then printed.])
  2. High school transcript including class ranking and SAT/ACT scores.
  3. References - 1 (one inside school system) (Community Foundation Scholarship Recommendation Form (PDF 52K) [Note: this application form can be filled out on-screen using the Adobe Acrobat Reader software and then printed.])
  4. Signed and dated Commitment form (part of application form).
  5. Essay
  6. Completed College Cost Estimator and Boone County release form (PDF 388K) if you want financial need to be considered. (Estimator is formatted for legal size paper. It should shrink to fit 8 1/2" x 11" paper when printed—families either need to print on legal paper or be sure they shrink to fit.)
Essay to Include:
  • Please address this topic:  identify and discuss a significant problem facing your generation.
  • Format: either provide a DVD reading your essay or type the essay on one page double-spaced.
  • Length: One page
Selection By: The Community Foundation of Boone County Lilly Endowment Scholarship selection committee chooses two scholarship nominees and one alternate; The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Boone County approves the committee's recommendations; The nominees and an alternate are forwarded to ICI (Independent Colleges of Indiana); An ICI committee reviews the applications and notifies the Community Foundation of Boone County of whether their nominees are approved; Community Foundation announces the names of the 2008 Lilly scholars.
