Background

Established By: In memory of Verlyn (Jay) and Dorothy Martin who were long time residents of Jamestown. They were both hard workers who owned and ran the Jamestown Hardware store at one time. They were not known by many in their later years as they kept to themselves. Upon their passing, they wanted to leave a legacy to help students achieve in life through careers offered through vocational/trade programs. (Some fields would be: culinary arts, auto repair, diesel mechanics, HVAC tech, cosmetology, computer graphics, medical technology, medical or dental assistant, office administration to name a few.)

Requirements / Selection Criteria

Residency: Boone County residents & Hendricks County residents
Diploma: Lebanon High School, Western Boone Jr. Sr. High School, Zionsville Community High School and Tri-West Hendricks High School
Enrollment: AN ACCREDITED VOCATIONAL OR TECHNICAL TRADE SCHOOL WITH A DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION IN TWO YEARS OR LESS
Specialized Study: No
Special Characteristics: No
Special Preference: Given to students who have shown success & potential in their classes, work or community service related to their chosen career & have perservered in spite of their obstacles.
Financial Need: Yes
Minimum GPA: 2.0-3.0 GPA (4.0 system)
Written Essay: Yes (see attached specifics)

Finalist Interview: No

Award Received

Tuition & Fees: $500-$2,000
Method: Check made payable directly to vocational/trade school.

  2. Format: Typed-double spaced

Selection By: Martin scholarship selection committee; approved by the Community Foundation of Boone County’s board of directors.
