Background

Established By: Dr. Stonehill for students who are pursuing careers in medicine. During his lifetime, he was able to pursue his educational goals and become professionally successful through the scholarships he received, and wanted to help young people achieve similar success. Dr. Stonehill had been a long time resident of Zionsville and passed away in the spring of 2003.
Date Established: 2000
Length of Scholarship: One year
Renewable: No-Awarded to a high school senior, but is not received by the student until his/her second year of college.

Requirements / Selection Criteria

Residency: Boone County, Indiana
Diploma: Western Boone, Zionsville High School, Lebanon High School or Sheridan High School
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private college or university
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)
Specialized Study: Medicine/Career as a doctor only
Special Characteristics: No
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: Yes
Minimum GPA: 3.5 Freshman year in college premed degree

Finalist Interview: Possible

Award Received

Tuition & Fees: $950 (amount awarded in 2006-07)
Method: Check paid directly to the college or university for application to tuition in the sophomore year.
