Background

Established For: Mabel and Eugene Higgins in memory of Mabel's parents William S. and Emma Washburn. It is designed to assist Indiana students studying agriculture, home economics or pre-medicine.

In 2001, Mabel passed away at the age of 97. She established this scholarship prior to her death as she wished to see some of her wealth be spent while she was alive to enjoy it and to make an impact well into the future.

Diploma: Tippecanoe County high school
Enrollment: Any accredited* public or private Indiana college or university
*(Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.)
Specialized Study: Agriculture, home economics or pre-medicine (or their successor departments)
Special Characteristics: No
Special Preference: No
Financial Need: No
Minimum GPA: 2.5 (4.0 system)

  • Length: Maximum one page
Selection By: Higgins scholarship selection committee; approved by the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of Boone County

It is Mabel Higgins hope that the recipient of this scholarship will treat the sums advanced to him/her as a moral obligation to be at least partially repaid, as he/she is able so that this scholarship may continue to grow and be available for future students.
