Scholars Meet Donors!

Community Foundation of Boone County

The Community Foundation of Boone County hosted a scholarship donor reception at Ulen Country Club in June where community leaders and current and past scholarship recipients met. Some students were able to meet the donors who made their scholarships possible. One student who met the donors of his scholarship was Tory Foster. This photo shows Tory Foster with Katherine & Ralph Beam. The Beams are long time residents of Jamestown who started the Ralph F. & Katherine L. Beam Family Scholarship, through the Western Boone Education Foundation, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Boone County. They wanted to make the difference in the lives of students in their community. The $2,000 per year renewable scholarship will help Tory achieve a degree in aerospace technology at Indiana State University. Through this scholarship and his perseverance, he hopes to one day be an air traffic controller.

In 2005, the Community Foundation of Boone County awarded $155,000 in scholarships from various donors and organizations throughout the county. In addition, two Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships were awarded with a total value of $223,000 making the overall value in scholarships for Boone County over $375,000. Seventy-one students received a scholarship or an award through the Community Foundation of Boone County. These were made by possible by the many donors who live in this community and want to make a difference in the lives of students. This reception is just one way that the Community Foundation of Boone County reflects it mission of "providing pathways for connecting people who care with causes that matter for now and in the future."
