Boone County Leadership (BCL) is a 9-month program that promotes civic engagement and educates participants about existing and emerging local issues on topics such as agribusiness, the legal system, health and human services, economic development, education and commerce.

The 2017 session will take place from January to October and meets one day a month, with no class in July.

2017 BCL Application

  • List any involvement in community, social, and professional organizations.

    • An anonymous committee of community leaders will conduct the applicant selection process.
    • 15-25 professionals are chosen for the class each year.
    • Every effort will be made to ensure that class composition is reflective of the county.
    • Attendance at the orientation, graduation and 7 out of the 9 classes is mandatory. The regular monthly classes begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm. Some class times may vary.
  • A limited number of partial scholarships are provided by the Community Foundation of Boone County. In order to qualify for a scholarship you must be employed with a nonprofit located in Boone County. The scholarship of $250 is available to one individual per organization. The balance of the cost ($500) must be paid by the participant or their affiliated nonprofit. Please state in two paragraphs or less why you should be selected as a partial scholarship recipient. Include your current or planned community involvement and how you anticipate Boone County Leadership will be of benefit to you.

  • By initialing here, I certify that my employer understands the time commitments of the program to which I am applying and they agree to afford me the time away from my employment to complete the program.

  • Classes will be held on the third Wednesday of each month, with the exception of Manufacturing/Warehousing on June 7 and Graduation on October 11 (due to fall break schedules). Classes begin in January (Orientation) and conclude in October (Graduation), with no class in July (there will be a social event). Class schedule:

    • January 18: Orientation*
    • February 15: Local Government
    • March 15: Education
    • April 19: Law Enforcement
    • May 17: Business and Economic & Workforce Development
    • June 7: Warehousing and Manufacturing
    • August 16: Health & Wellness
    • September 20: Agriculture
    • October 11: Graduation*

    *Mandatory Attendance


    By signing below, I acknowledge that I have read, understand and agree to the following:

    • The time commitment is for January through October 2017 as outlined, and that 80% attendance is required.
    • Attendance is MANDATORY at the orientation and graduation.
    • Missing any time during the program classes will count as 1/2 day (leaving early, arriving late)
    • A tuition fee of $750 will be invoiced to accepted applicants ($500 for nonprofit applicants)
    • My signature warrants that all information contained in this application is true and correct.

    Applicants will be notified by December 15th of their acceptance into the program.

    Once the applicant is approved, please send a check payable to Community Foundation of Boone County (or CFBC) with "BCL" in the memo.
