SHALOM HOUSE RECEIVES WOMEN OF IMPACT GRANT
Over 90 members attended the first quarter meeting of the 2019 Women of Impact year, on March 6th, 2019. Of the 10 nominated nonprofit organizations, three were drawn to give a five minute pitch on who the organization is and how they could use the grant funds: Lebanon Community of Shalom House, presented by Cheryl Brown, Love Inc., presented by Cindy Hall, and Symphony at Sunset, presented by Anne Patterson (pictured, left to right). The members closed the meeting by voting and awarding the 2019 first quarter grant to Lebanon Community of Shalom.
The Shalom House is a dine-in facility where free meals are served weekly on Tuesdays (5-7pm), Saturdays (11-1pm), and the last Thursday of every month (5-7pm). They also manage the sack lunch program, which puts together and distributes sack lunches to families with children during school breaks. The mission of the Lebanon Community of Shalom is to impact the people of Boone County by feeding bodies and encouraging the spirit. The vision is to feed our community so that one day no one will ever experience hunger. The Shalom House is located in South Lebanon at 304 W. Green St. and can be contacted at 765.891.9065. Volunteers can contact them directly to help serve.
During the Women of Impact meeting, the members also heard from two previous grant recipients and how the funds have made an impact within their organization. First to speak was the fourth quarter 2018 grant recipient, Mental Health of America Boone County. Katie Pollock, Attorney for MHA, shared with the group that the funds are being used to help offset costs not covered through other grants as well as increase services due to operating at near max capacity. Second to speak was the first quarter 2018 grant recipient, Black Box Theatre Company. Emily Wolfgang, co-founder, announced that the funds were used to move the nonprofit to a larger facility, which now allows the organization to serve youth from all parts of Boone County as well as increase the number of services, classes, and productions offered.
The Women of Impact Boone County is a philanthropic women’s group, coordinated by the Community Foundation of Boone County. This group is designed to provide financial support for Boone County-serving nonprofit organizations while creating a sense of community. The group meets four times a year, nominates nonprofits, listens to selected organizations give a pitch on why they could use the funds, then the members vote and the grant recipient is announced that same evening. Over the past two years, the amazing members have graciously gifted $100,340 to eight different nonprofit organizations who directly serve Boone County.
If you want to be part of a powerful group that makes a lasting, positive and direct impact on Boone County, plan to attend the next meeting on June 5th. You can also contact Julie Reagan at 765.482.0024 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
